Mission SMWA's mission is “To annually provide the best and most efficient schedule of courses to graduate, support and expand the knowledge of qualified wildland firefighters through the Single Resource Level (ie. Engine Boss) while also offering a variety of community outreach courses relating to personal safety and the expansion of the public’s knowledge of the Firefighting/EMS field”. Location The 2024 Sacramento Mountains Wildfire Academy will be held April 5th thru 14th, 2024, at the Cloudcroft High School, Cloudcroft, NM. The Equipment Field Training will be held in several places in the Cloudcroft area. Tuition Please contact SMWA for information. Prerequisites Several courses require prerequisite knowledge or course work. If you have not completed a course prerequisite through the Sacramento Mountain Wildfire Academy but have equivalent training or qualifications, a proof of completion will be required to register. Please send with your registration form documentation of the course(s) you wish to have considered including the date and location. Billing and Refunds Please contact SMWA for information. Individuals will be billed Organizations/agencies may be billed for fees if the registration form is accompanied by a purchase order or authorization letter signed by your organization’s administrator and on official letterhead with the appropriate billing address. Billing of all registered participants will be done regardless of attendance. Full refunds will be honored upon written request received prior to March 31st, 2024. Cancellation Policy Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received after March 28th, 2024, will be assessed a $50.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made after 5:00 p.m. on April 1st, 2024. Cancellations must be phoned in for consideration of any reimbursement or credit. Confirmation All participants will receive a confirmation email within 1 week of registering. A full welcome packet including any pre-course materials will be set aside for you once registration and payment have been processed. If you have not received confirmation within 2 weeks of registering, please go to contact page. Age Disclaimer Individuals under the age of 16 may not participate in the Sacramento Mountains Wildfire Academy. Those 16 and 17 years of age may participate only in lecture classes if accompanied by a registered adult department member. The adult department member must submit a written statement of responsibility to be approved by our office prior to confirmation of the participant. Contact the SMWA for more information. Alcohol/Smoking Policy
Sacramento Mountains Wildfire Academy is an alcohol and smoke free campus. Parking and Transportation On-site parking will be available at the Cloudcroft High School. Dress Code It is each student’s responsibility to select attire that projects a professional image while remaining appropriate for climate differences and safety for in class activities. The SMWA staff have the authority to make a determination that a participant’s attire may be inappropriate. When required, participants must provide their own PPE. Inappropriate or sleeveless shirts, etc., will not be permitted in the classroom or on the practical site. In addition, shorts or open-toe sandals will not be permitted on the practical site. Code of Conduct Your conduct while attending out-of-town educational programs or other fire service events should be no different than it would be at home or in front of your families. Wherever you travel, the FD license plate, the blue light, the window decal, or the EMT cross on your jacket or t-shirt identifies you as a member of an honorable and proud profession. Your actions reflect upon not only you as an individual, but your agency department and the fire service as a whole. The public expects our actions to be above reproach — on and off the emergency. We hope that your actions while at the Sacrament Mountains Wildfire Academy will polish, not tarnish, the fire service’s image in the General Assembly’s home away from home. Meals Meals will be provided for 2024 SMWA. Saturday, April 6th, and Saturday April 13th, 2024 there will be a general session with luncheon served. Snacks Coffee, Water and Tea will be provided all day. For breakfast, lunch and dinner there are discounted restaurants.
