SMWA's mission is “To annually provide the best and most efficient schedule of courses to graduate, support and expand the knowledge of qualified wildland firefighters through the Single Resource Level (ie. Engine Boss) while also offering a variety of community outreach courses relating to personal safety and the expansion of the public’s knowledge of the Firefighting/EMS field”.
COVID-19 COMPLIANCE STATEMENT: While continuing to offer training for our Mission Essential Firefighting personnel, we have modified our Academy structure and will continue to monitor the current guidance from the CDC and the New Mexico Department of Health and NM Governor’s Public Health Orders, applicable at the time of the Academy. A few examples of such accommodation are: providing “learning pods” with smaller groups of people, spacially distanced. We will not have a general session this year and will not have vendors or a centralized registration area. Attendees will be given directions to their classroom locations and will report directly there. Learning materials and supplies will be provided at the individual sites around town. We will not provide prepared food but will have pre-packaged snacks and drinks. We will provide N95 masks and sanitization supplies at every classroom location. Every classroom will be cleaned on a daily basis by our existing janitorial staff who is currently providing COVID safe sanitizing practices for our workforce. NM Health.org: https://cv.nmhealth.org/

SMWA
We make the most of the training to challenge individuals physically and mentally in a repetitive and dedicated manner.
Students are provided with the opportunity to add context to the knowledge gained during the class studies. |
Trainers
Our qualified trainers ensure comprehensive skills and knowledge are covered in a way that allows for successful learning and retention.
Every certified trainer has years of experience dedicated to helping you become the best firefighter you can be. |
Practical Skills
The physical nature of a firefighter’s job requires familiarity with both equipment and procedures. SMWA is designed to provide this experience in a concentrated training session that spans several days .
|
Academic Studies
Student’s time in the academy is spent doing hands on training and in the classroom; to include simulations that enable the students to experience real firefighting challenges in a controlled setting.
